Safe Bulkers, Inc. was incorporated in the Republic of the Marshall Islands on December 11, 2007, for the purpose of acquiring ownership of various subsidiaries that either owned or were scheduled to own vessels. Polys Hajioannou, our chief executive officer, has a long history of operating and investing in the international shipping industry, including a long history of vessel ownership. Vassos Hajioannou, the late father of Polys Hajioannou, our chief executive officer, first invested in shipping in 1958.
