A vessel’s position is the boat’s, not the owner’s. Ownership is as reported, not certified.

Genesis is the largest aluminium yacht Heesen has built. She carries a new internal skeleton to reach thirty knots. AIS data shows she has been stationary in the Aegean Sea for months. Her reported owner, Adnan Ahmadzada, was arrested in September 2025 on fraud charges.

Genesis sits near Rhodes. She has not moved since late summer 2025. The last AIS signal placed her in the Aegean Sea.

The yacht measures 80.07 metres. She is registered in the Cayman Islands. That country handles her legal paperwork.

Adnan Ahmadzada owns the vessel. He is from Azerbaijan. He was deputy vice president of SOCAR. That is the state oil firm.

How did Heesen build an 80-metre hull?

Heesen Yachts is based in Oss, the Netherlands. The yard launched its first boat in 1978. It builds custom metal yachts. The company has made more than two hundred vessels.

Genesis began as Project Cosmos in 2019. It was the biggest project Heesen had at that time. The design needed fast cruising speeds. The target was close to thirty knots.

Metal is light but soft. An 80-metre shell needs extra strength. Heesen created a patented spine. This stiff part runs from bow to stern. It holds the light structure together.

The yard joined the hull and upper works in July 2020. The four-engine drive was fitted then too. The outside lines came from Winch Design in the UK.

The yard delivered the yacht in August 2023. It now carries the name Genesis. The estimated value is $150 million. The gross tonnage is 1,711 tons.

What makes the drive system unique?

Speed needs power and flow. Heesen used a Rolls-Royce Promas system. This unit joins the rudder and propeller into one piece. It improves water flow around the hull.

Rolls-Royce refined the design at its research centre. The facility is in Kristinehamn, Sweden. Engineers proved the best shape using scale models. The testing confirmed the gains.

The Fast Displacement Hull Form helps too. This shape cuts through water with less resistance. It allows large yachts to cruise efficiently at higher speeds. Heesen first used this form on Galactica Star in 2013.

Genesis uses four engines and two gearboxes. The system drives the integrated Promas units. This setup moves the heavy metal hull. It meets the design speed targets without burning too much fuel.

Genesis, 80.07 m, carries the heaviest aluminium superstructure Heesen has yet launched. The yard joined her hull and upper works in July 2020.

Who is Adnan Ahmadzada and where did his money come from?

Adnan Ahmadzada worked for SOCAR for many years. The State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan is a huge enterprise. He rose through the marketing teams.

He became executive director of SOCAR Trading in 2018. He held the deputy vice president role from 2019. He left the state company in 2023. He then established ABDA Invest Holding.

His wealth came from his job at SOCAR. He owned Oilmar, a marine fuel trading company in Dubai. This business connected him to global shipping routes.

Why was he arrested and what happened to the yacht?

Ahmadzada was arrested on September 11, 2025. Police placed him in pre-trial detention. The charges include sabotage and large-scale embezzlement. Media reports linked the case to crude oil contamination.

Authorities alleged ties to Russia as well. The investigation targeted economic security violations. His detention was extended on January 13, 2026. He remains in custody.

Oilmar underwent a management buy-out after the arrest. Ownership transferred from Ahmadzada to his team. The yacht Genesis appears linked to his personal assets.

The EU has not sanctioned him directly. However, his arrest froze his ability to manage the asset. The yacht sits idle while legal proceedings continue.

Where has Genesis been tracked recently?

AIS data tracks her movements in the Aegean Sea. She sailed between Marmaris and Fethiye in Turkey. These trips occurred in August and September 2026.

The voyages covered short distances. One trip ran 91 nautical miles. Another covered 72 nautical miles. The average speeds stayed below eighteen knots.

She visited Rhodes in Greece before returning to Turkey. The last recorded position was near 36.73° N, 28.09° E. She has remained there since.

The standstill matches the timeline of her owner's arrest. The legal constraints prevent active use. The yacht waits in the Aegean until the situation resolves.

Her live track shows no movement since the Aegean Sea log entry recorded in late summer 2025. Follow her live position →
