A vessel’s position is the boat’s, not the owner’s. Ownership is as reported, not certified.

Blue’s interior remains unpublished, but the spatial constraints imposed on its designer are legible in the register. Terence Disdale was handed a 14,785-gross-tonne volume by Lürssen, engineered for dual aviation operations and zero-emission loitering, leaving him to arrange a sovereign command centre inside a steel box.

The floor plans for Blue have never been released, and no photograph of her accommodation decks has passed beyond the shipyard gates. What remains public is the envelope that the interior designer Terence Disdale inherited when he took over from Lürssen’s naval architects. Registered under IMO 9862231 and flying the Cayman Islands flag, she measures 160 metres in length and carries 14,785 gross tonnes, a volume that forces a specific arrangement of space regardless of aesthetic preference. The brief Disdale received was dictated by the owner’s requirements for mobility, security, and extended autonomy rather than by the limitations of a standard luxury yacht.

The geometry of the envelope

A gross tonnage of 14,785 within a 160-metre hull produces a density that exceeds most contemporaries. The beam sits at 26 metres, giving the vessel a width-to-length ratio that translates directly into interior square footage across multiple decks. Disdale did not have to fight for volume; the challenge was distributing it. The register confirms a beach club connected to a swimming platform and two helicopter landing sites, features that consume prime real estate on the upper levels and dictate the placement of heavy equipment down through the superstructure. Every square metre allocated to aviation infrastructure reduces the area available for guest accommodation, forcing a vertical stacking of functions that defines the internal circulation.

The engineering specifications leave a fixed imprint on the interior layout. Blue operates on a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion concept developed by Lürssen engineering specialists, utilising an electric Azimuth Pod Drive system. This configuration requires substantial power generation and storage capacity, occupying dedicated volumes within the lower hull and midships sections. The vessel also carries a membrane wastewater treatment system capable of producing output at drinking water quality. Such plants are bulky, requiring significant tankage and processing space that must be isolated from the accommodation zones for vibration and odour control. These systems are not optional add-ons; they define the core of the ship and leave the perimeter decks for the human elements of the brief.

The engineering footprint

Lürssen possesses the specific dry-dock capacity and engineering pedigree to deliver such a complex assembly. The yard constructed Azzam, the second-largest private yacht at 180 metres, and Dilbar, the highest-volume superyacht in 2016. Their facility at Lemwerder handles vessels of this scale regularly, and their naval division, Naval Vessels Lürssen, brings military-grade precision to the integration of combat and surveillance systems. When Disdale entered the project, he was working within a framework already optimised for high-security statecraft. The yard’s experience with government contracts meant that the transition from engineering to interior fit-out would prioritise functional segregation over open-plan luxury.

The owner’s profile clarifies why that functional segregation was necessary. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan serves as Vice President and deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, alongside his role as minister of presidential court. He controls the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, the UAE Central Bank, and chairs two sovereign wealth funds, Mubadala Investment Company and the Emirates Investment Authority. His acquisition of Manchester City through the Abu Dhabi United Group in September 2008 demonstrated a capacity for capital deployment that dwarfs commercial enterprise, but his primary function is statecraft. Mansour is the brother of the current President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and is married to Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed Al Maktoum, daughter of the ruler of Dubai.

Blue, 160 metres, carries 14,785 gross tonnes of volume that Terence Disdale arranged within a 26-metre beam.

The sovereign command centre

Mansour has directed significant foreign policy initiatives, including efforts to bolster Khalifa Haftar in the Libyan Civil War and manage alliances involving Sudanese leadership. In October 2022, he was accused by reports of facilitating the flow of sanctioned Russian assets through the UAE. The British government subsequently blocked his $600 million attempt to acquire The Daily Telegraph through International Media Investments due to national security concerns. A yacht carrying a figure central to these operations requires an interior designed for secure communications, protected meeting spaces, and staff quarters that operate independently of the guest areas. The design choices Disdale made were driven by the necessity of maintaining operational continuity while anchored in international waters.

Operational autonomy forms the final pillar of the brief. The advanced exhaust after-treatment and the membrane wastewater system indicate a requirement to remain in sensitive marine environments without discharge penalties. This extends the range of the accommodation suite, demanding larger provisions stores and crew facilities than a typical Mediterranean cruiser would require. The two helicopter landing sites allow for rapid personnel transfer and logistics resupply, reducing reliance on tender boats and further altering the flow of traffic between the dock and the main deck. The interior layout naturally segregates the high-traffic aviation and engineering zones from the quiet zones intended for the principal and his guests.

Blue was originally known as Project Blue before launching in February 2022. She underwent sea trials from Bremen by April and was delivered to her owner in July, making her maiden voyage to Malta immediately thereafter. She held the distinction of being the largest yacht launched in 2022 and ranked as the fifth largest globally by length as of 2024. Sightings since delivery place her in Marmaris, Cape Town, and Sardinia. In June 2025, SuperYacht Times published photographs showing her in Porto Cervo. She was then reported to have stopped in Golfo Aranci before being spotted in Kalamata on 18 August 2025. By 23 August, Blue was docked at the port of Heraklion as Mansour holidayed in Crete. The pattern of movement suggests a vessel used for both leisure and official transit across multiple continents. The interior Disdale delivered had to withstand years of heavy use across varying climates and political environments. The absence of published images protects the security protocols, but the registered tonnage and machinery define the workspace.

Blue is currently recorded at 37.63° N, 23.94° E in the Aegean Sea, having moved from Kalamata to Heraklion in August 2025. Follow her live position →
