Hot Water

Who’s in trouble for something they said or did. Each person is listed only once at least two outlets report it, and you see those outlets’ headlines.

How Hot Water works

Who gets listed. Someone who did or said something themselves and is now facing backlash, a lawsuit, charges, a firing or a suspension for it. Being criticized for your pregnancy, being the one doing the criticizing, or just being mentioned in someone else’s story doesn’t count.

How we find them. Every hour we check the people trending on Google, X and Wikipedia, everyone who tweeted that day and the people we follow, against Google News. A person needs headlines from at least two different outlets in the last three days.

Who decides. An AI model running on our own computer reads each person’s headlines against our written standards and approves or turns them down. If it says no, they’re not listed.

What you see. A short summary the model wrote from the headlines, with numbers linking to each one, then the outlets’ own headlines. Highlighted words are why a person is listed.

Every headline links to the outlet that wrote it. Summaries are written by an AI model from those headlines and can be wrong; to report an error, see Corrections.
